Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 (6 mayo 1882 año – 6 mayo 1943 año)
Descripción:
This act suspended all Chinese labor immigration into the U.S. This was practically the first act based on ethnicity/race to be put into place. This reflected the racism and classism of the working systems in the U.S.
Additionally, this is what created the basis for today's border patrol and ICE. The Chinese were the first to be categorized as "illegal," which is a term that is still used today when referring to Central American immigration.
Important Question: Who was allowed during the Chinese Exclusion Act? How did this play into white supremacy and classism in the U.S.?
