Marco Polo was a Venetian merchant, explorer, and writer who traveled all throughout Asia using the Silk Road between 1271 and 1295.
Marco was born on September 15th, 1254 to Nicole Anna Defuseh and Niccolò Polo. He was nicknamed Milione when he first came back to Venice because he wouldn't stop talking about how Kublai Khan's wealth was counted in millions.
In 1271, Marco, age 17, set sail on his first voyage on the first part of a series of adventures. 4 years later, Kublai Khan told Polo that he was going to appoint him to be his foreign emissary to India and Burma. As a result of the appointment, Marco Polo extensively traveled through China, living inside the Khan's land for 17 years.
After the Polo's accompanied Kököchin, the Mongol princess, to her future consort, Marco, his father, and his brother were finally allowed to travel back to Venice.
