Rebelling against the rule of the Mughal puppet state Jabalpur, the region of Gujarat enjoys extensive military support from France and to a lesser extent Britain. 3,000 French and 800 British volunteers serve directly in the lines of Gujarat's army, whereas the Mughals enjoy the support of other Sunni states in the world, mainly the Ottomans.

In June of 1923, the independent Republic of Gujarat is proclaimed. With the pro-secessionist forces winning a major victory in Jabalpur's western provinces on March 9th, 1924, the Mughal forces retreat and never return. On April 15th, Gujarat unilaterally declares an armistice.
