the beet plague and the withdrawal (1 ene 1547 año – 1 ene 1660 año)

the atkins royal family has been send into exile and things are going to shit fast
there's a new illness sweeping the land, and they call it the beet plague
it kills like 25% of the lowlander population and people are getting antsy
no one really knows why it's not affecting the highlanders quite so much, maybe it's the genes, their ethnic group is less receptive of the plague, apparently that's a real thing
anyway, the highlanders see the appeal in this, not just bc they're not dropping like flies, but also bc it affords them the chance to start making demands
the caverians have next to no protection against this disease, they're losing their power slowly, and to avoid a blood bath like what james acheson delivered, they agree to let the highlander clans have some of their land back in the cadals, and they also get to install a sovereign
now, the caveres won't give up all their power, so instead of a king, the highlanders are allowed to have a vice prince
this is really only to pacify them, and it works
it doesn't gibe them any real power, just the semblance of it
they set their capital in sarasae, and the caveres are in fairne
they also get to form a council of clans (they really just get to vote on stuff that has to do with the cadals, they don't have real power, either), and now they've really separated themselves form the lowlanders, building a barrier between the cadals and everywhere else, setting up the cultural barriers that will last for centuries
they've cut themselves off, and now they are no longer one people, united despite differences
