ok so they're called faeries but i feel like that's more the legendary term they were given and they're really more an off-shoot of humans
we're gonna come back to this
anyways by the time cian and co come around, they all know the stories of the great civilization wiped away thousands of years ago on the other side of the ocean
but once again, they don't really believe it
in what would be caledoan (fairne more specifically) queen neflys ruled
she had one daughter, vorr
vorr's best friend, cian, finds these ancient tunnels and this room filled with strange things, ancient maps and books and machinery, he finds this one strange object
it's the holojournal
he listens to the projection of the scientist telling his story and how there's a flood heading their way
maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but eventually, inevitably
how does he understand this dead language u may ask?
ok so cian is like super smart and all, so he spends the first few months after finding the lab just studying the language until he has a basic understanding of it
and then he tells vorr and takes her to see it and he's all 'if there's really a flood coming, we have to stop it'
and they're young, probably no more than teenagers when they find it
so they're all 'we're not gonna tell anyone, we're gonna be heroes'
and over the next few years, they study and read everything they can get their hands on about the people who came before, but while vorr is still obsessed with the idea of saving the world, cian gets this idea that the only way to save it is to control it, and the only way to control it is to bring all the cataclysms around now instead of waiting for them to come
vorr, who has also been training to become a priestess (and thus a witch), finds out about his plan and she's like 'uuuh maybe not'
but by this point, they've fallen in love (despite her mom's disapproval) and she doesn't want to tell him to psycho down a bit
she's also like 'yeah, ok, haha, but he's not gonna actually do it, it's just a thought experience'
she'd also be like 'it's probably not gonna happen, what does weird blue man know anyway'
