Berlin Blockade and Airlift (24 jun 1948 año – 12 mayo 1949 año)
Descripción:
After world war II, France, Britain, The Soviet Union and America split Germany into four zones. Berlin was on the Soviet side of Germany and in control of the Americans. Tensions increased between the Soviets and their allies because of the plans the other 3 zones had for unifying West Germany. They hoped to persuade West Berliners to reject their allies in the West and they tried to prevent the creation of a unified West German state. This caused a catastrophe in Berlin and led to a blockade of railways, roads and canals and people in Berlin were left to suffer. They provided an Airlift to deliver important goods to the people in Berlin and it went on for a year.
In 1949, the Soviets realized the plan failed, so they lifted the blockade. This was the biggest failure during the cold war since it increased tensions between countries and it made The Soviets look bad.
