Was a Republican. Known for anti-communism and infrastructure.

Once in office, the moderate Eisenhower had his hands tied by conservatives who thought he was going too far, and liberals who felt he wasn't going far enough. Tried for education and healthcare programs, but was struck down. Did create the Health, Education, and Welfare cabinet position, passed National Defense Education Act, and increased federal support for education. He was moderate in foreign policy too, never directly intervening in conflicts. On the sidelines, he funneled money to anticommunists, helping the French in Vietnam against Ho Chi Minh and Chiang Kai Shek in Taiwan against Mao Zedong's China. Like other presidents after him, he used the threat of nuclear retaliation against communism in Russia.
