The OG imperialist and trust buster. Was a Republican.

1896 appointed as McKinley's assistant secretary of the navy. He put a big emphasis on expanding US naval capabilities. Advocated for the annexation of Hawaii. Ran as VP and became president after McKinley assassination. Developed new warships and expanded the navy. Said US military power was key to maintaining peace. His big area of focus was South America. Intervened in Panama's fight for independence from Colombia because wanted to build the canal. Also created Guantanamo Bay base as an extension of American power. 1905 Roosevelt sent the Marines to occupy the Dominican Republic and established financial supervision over the Dominican government. His idea in doing all of this was that the US had to take control economically before Europe did. Nevertheless, he still claimed he was doing it to maintain peace.
