The Red Scare: Palmer Raids (1 ene 1919 año – 31 dic 1919 año)

Descripción:

Even though the war had ended, the U.S. was still not without its fair share of problems, as many were dissatisfied with the peace-making process. On top of that, the anti-German frenzy of the war years was almost immediately replaced by an anti-Communist mania (a.k.a. The Red Scare) after Russia became the first Communist nation, resulting in restrictions on immigration in the following decade. Riding on this wave of anti-Communist hysteria, and following a string of unexplained bombings, Attorney General Palmer ordered thousands of arrests on radicals (particularly foreigners, anarchists, socialists, and labor activists) with little to no evidence against them. These became known as the Palmer Raids, and they sparked criticism for being in violation of civil liberties, especially as the Red Scare began to die down in 1920.
