Descripción:
Booker T. Washington was an African American leader that was born a slave and emancipated at the age of nine. He argued that African Americans should not focus on racial equality but on more practical issues such as education and vocation because financial independence will better their lives. He founded the Tuskegee Institute which taught African Americans industrious habits and practical job skills. Other African American leaders criticized him as supporting accommodation.
