Fighting Back: Ocala Platform*(POL, WXT) (1 abr 1890 año – 1 abr 1896 año)
Descripción:
The National Alliance of farmers met in Ocala, Florida to analyze the state in which rural America was in. This alliance of farmers attacked large business and Wall Street Bankers and created a platform aimed to enforce benefits for farmers that would heavily impact politics. The Ocala Platform supported the direct voting of senators, lower tariffs, an income tax based on a person’s wealth, a federally regulated banking system, the enforcement of Treasury notes and silver into the economy for higher inflation rates, which would translate to a rise in crop prices, federal storage of crops, and federal loans to become independent from middlemen and creditors. Although the alliance stopped right before becoming a political party, the reform ideologies of the Grangers would become a part of the Populist movement and would challenge the fundamentals of the two-party system.
