African Americans continued to use traditional African names, the continued to used bits of African and Caribbean languages, farming techniques, musical instruments, and dances. Their culture was mostly passed on through storytelling, music, culture. African Americans embraced evangelical teachings offered by Baptist and Methodist preachers because it offered the message of liberation in the afterlife.
