To pay for reimbursing the state creditors with national bonds, Ham implemented a whiskey tax. Pissed off Pennsylvania famers. 1794 a mob attacks tax collectors and burns their houses down. Later in the month, 7,000 people had joined the movement. Washington tries to negotiate, but ends up sending in the military to disperse the rioters. Shows power of federal gov.
