The cold war was a state of geopolitical tension between powers called the Eastern Bloc (the Soviet Union and the satellite states) and the Western Bloc (the United States, NATO and a few others). It began not long after World War 2 ended in 1945. Even though, the Soviet Union was an important member of the allied powers there was a huge distrust between the Soviet Union and the rest of the allies. Although the two never declared war, they fought indirectly in proxy wars.
