WWII and Mexican Americans (1 ene 1940 año – 1 ene 1945 año)
Descripción:
WWII required more workers in the southwest and the pacific coast for war production which resulted in a shortage of farm workers. The U.S. negotiated an agreement with Mexico for contract laborers (braceros) to work in agricultural fields which increased the Mexican population in the U.S. Also, 300,000 Mexican Americans fought in WWII. Mexican American participation in WWII increased their focus on civil rights and they formed the United Latin American Citizens (ULAC) organization that successfully fought segregation in public accommodations.
