The Ming Dynasty did not last beyond the mid-16th century because many problems had risen that had weakened the dynasty, including that of the pirates and the smugglers. While government affairs and communal disruptions were occurring, the emperors of Ming had decided to ignore these affairs for decades on end while trying to satisfy their luxurious lifestyle. Emperors such as Wanli, would conduct business with eunuchs, so eventually the eunuchs used their power to increase their own wealth. As their influence increased, corrpution and inefficiency spread throughout the government and weakened the Ming state.
A series of famines had struck China as well, and the government was unable to organize relief efforts. This lead to revolts, and the Manchus invaded China during this time to expand and established the Qing Dynasty.
