Geneva Accords (Vietnam War) (26 abr 1954 año – 20 jul 1954 año)
Descripción:
Description: The Geneva Accords was a collection of documents relating to the future of Vietnam. Diplomats from almost a hundred nations- including the US, Soviet Union, China, France, and Great Britain attended the conference in Geneva, Switzerland.
Significance: The Geneva Accords were significant as the accords suggested that Vietnam would become an independent nation- ending 75 years of French colonialism. Former French colonies like Cambodia and Laos were given independence and Vietnam would temporarily be divided for a period of two years along the 17th parallel, pending elections to choose a president and reunite the country. In addition, as part of the agreement, France agreed to withdraw its troops from Northern Vietnam.
