The Berlin Blockade was one of the first major crises between the United States and the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union closed their half of the city of Berlin, not allowing anyone or anything to enter or leave. As a response, Truman and the United States sent planes to carry inside the supplies that originally entered Berlin by land, a move known as the Berlin Airlift. The Soviets did not make a move to stop the airlift, and a year later reopened Berlin.
