Growing controversy over the infallibility of Scripture within SBC (1 feb 1969 año – 1 ene 1971 año)
Descripción:
1969 marked the tipping point toward the SBC’s renewed stance on the inerrancy of Scripture. In general alignment with the commentary igniting the Genesis Controversy in 1961, G. Henton Davies published the Genesis-Exodus volume of the Broadman Bible Commentary which wrought with liberalism, higher-criticism, and mythological interpretation. Though liberal SBC theologians continued to produce similar works and question inerrancy in the classroom for a time, the SBC rose to the challenge and opposed the new danger to Christian orthodoxy. By 1979, the SBC began its full-blown operation today known as the Conservative Resurgence. The Baptist Faith & Message was revised in 2000 to reaffirm biblical inerrancy, declaring victory over the internal theological attacks of the previous decades. This controversy was detrimental to the SBC at its height, nevertheless, it was used to bring about a fresh and stronger affirmation of Scripture’s authority in the denomination.
