At about twenty years of age, Leland came to faith in Christ and swiftly discovered his giftedness in preaching God’s Word. Throughout his life, his preaching ministry reached a number of states (as well as foreign countries) and performed over one thousand baptisms as a result. Furthermore, he deeply concerned himself with civil rights and religious freedom for all men. In fact, he was directly involved with convincing Madison to write the First Amendment. His impact on Baptist Christianity and the US Government was certainly positive.
