Slavery (1 ene 1619 año – 1 ene 1865 año)
Descripción:
African American's were first brought to America in 1619 as slaves. Many people in America (especially in the North) wanted all slaves to be freed. These people were called abolitionist. "The burning issue that led to the disruption of the union was the debate over the future of slavery. That dispute led to secession, and secession brought about a war in which the Northern and Western states and territories fought to preserve the Union, and the South fought to establish Southern independence as a new confederation of states under its own constitution." ("Causes Of The Civil War", 2010) By the wars end in 1865, most of the slaves in the South had been freed by Northern forces. The image below shows a African American slave working on a Southern plantation.
