The Battle of Shanghai (13 agos 1937 año – 26 nov 1937 año)
Descripción:
As continues their advance towards the Chinese capital, they were held off in Shang Hai for an intense 3-month long battle during 1937. The Chinese soldiers engaged the Japanese with the intent to stall and weaken their army. The Japanese had the interest to expand into Shanghai as it serves as a gateway to the rest of China as well as being an industrialised city that can provide a boost to Japan’s economy. The battle resulted in the Chinese retreating but was successful in damaging, stalling and demoralised the Japanese after 3 months of battle giving both sides heavy casualties. This is a turning point as Japan has taken an economically developing and industrialised city of China as well as one which provides entrances into other cities of China, leading to the battle of Nanking and Nanking massacre. This helps Japan continue their invasion of China. Relations ship between Japan and China worsens as Japan takes over more of China’s land. The incident also marks China’s resistance against Japan with a 3-month long major battle unlike the Marco Polo Incident.
