Yeshiva of Jerusalem (1 ene 850 año – 1 ene 1080 año)
Descripción:
During this time period, the Jewish community in the Land of Israel maintained a prestigious academy in Jerusalem. The heads of this academy were considered Geonim, like the heads of the yeshivot in Babylonia, and their rulings reached throughout the diaspora.
While this yeshiva was ultimately less influential than the Babylonian yeshivot, it was highly regarded especially by Egyptian and Ashkenazi Jews.
Much of our information about this yeshiva comes from the Cairo geniza.
The Seljuk Turkish conquest of Jerusalem forced the yeshiva to flee to Egypt and Lebanon, where it fragmented.
