Jefferson Presidency (4 mar 1801 año – 4 mar 1809 año)
Descripción:
After being appointed secretary of state for George Washington, Jefferson created and ran for President for the Democratic-Republican Party in opposition of Hamilton's Federalist Party. Throughout his Presidency, he opposed slavery despite owning slaves throughout his life. Though he wrote "all men are created equal" in the Declaration of Independence, he didn't believe that this extended to African Americans, who he believed to be second-class people. One of his most notable acts as President was the purchase of the Louisiana Territory from France, which was quite controversial at the time. After two terms, Jefferson chose not to run for a third in 1808, and spent most of the remainder of his life in Monticello.
