Triple Helix Structure Theory
Linus Pauling, Robert Corey (1 ene 1953 año – 1 ene 1953 año)
Descripción:
After many scientists such as Avery, McCarty, MacLeod, and Chargaff all supported the theory that DNA held an organism’s genes, scientists Linus Pauling and Robert Corey were skeptical and still believed that proteins were responsible for genetics, but that DNA may have some impact with proteins to support genes function. The scientists began researching and experimenting to find the significance if any that DNA had. During these experiments, the two found that DNA played a big role in cell division and “heredity” which was their prideful way of saying that DNA did in fact play a role in genetics. So, at the California Institute of Technology in California, Pauling and Corey published the article “Nucleic Acids” explaining their theory on how the DNA’s structure is a triple helix with three strands of DNA spiraled together in which was a secondary and only hypothesized theory thought of during research. This evidence and theory opened many eyes and played a major role in Watson and Crick’s structure theory later on, it also provides those still questioning with more information on DNA, proteins, and genetics.
