Tiberius defended and prosecuted at court and before the Senate in his early career. His first military campaign was against the Cantabrians. He later subjugated various Germanic peoples and took 40,000 of them, prisoner. He was forced to divorce from his first wife to marry Augustus's daughter Julia.
