Guy Fawkes was a conspirator, a British soldier in the gunpowder plot, the unsuccessful plan to blow up Westminster Palace with King James I and Parliament inside. He was born in 1570 in York England. Fawkes was persecuted for his attempt at the gunpowder plot, after, people began to celebrate Guy Fawkes Day by burning his effigy. Some began to view Fawkes as a symbol of resistance against state-sponsored oppression.
