The Union taking over control over the Mississippi River (1 mayo 1863 año – 4 jul 1863 año)

Descripción:

The Union wanted to separate the eastern and western sides of the confederacy. They gained control of most of the river except for area around Vicksburg. General Grant fought to obtain Vicksburg and failed until he sent a siege and he finally gained control of the entire Mississippi river. This was important because the Union could separate both sides of the confederacy and they could sail ships safely up and down the river-(Discovery Ed). The Union had pretty much trapped the South and this was also a factor that helped the Union win.
