Louis XVI was born August 23, 1754 and died January 21, 1793. He was the grandson of Louis XV and became the new king after his fathers death. Despite holding the title of king, he was still immature, and lacked confidence, leading him to give away much of his power to other ministers, who he was unable to support. The people of France were unhappy with French rule at the time, and wanted to set something like a constitutional monarchy, but he refused to even acknowledge them. This was due to his weak temperament, which was the thing that really started the French revolution proper.
