Location: French Morocco, French Algeria and French Tunisia
Summary: The Allies decided to launch Operation Torch after a disagreement between Stalin and Churchill and Roosevelt. This was an invasion of Axis-controlled North Africa. 107,000 Allied troops landed in Casablanca, Oran, and Algiers in North Africa and from there they sped eastward. Months of battling went by until the last of the Afrika Korps surrendered.
Significance: This operation was significant because the victory of the Allies allowed American troops to gain some much-needed combat experience. And it help prove that they were capable of making a signifacnt contribution to the war effort.
