Location: Nuremberg, Germany
Summary: After the discover of the Nazi death camps that were used during the war, the Allies put 24 surviving Nazis on trial. The defendants included some of Hitler's most trusted party officials and. military leaders. Each defendant was charged was accused of Crimes Against Peace, War Crimes, and/or Crimes Against Humanity. 12 out of 24 defendants were sentenced to death and most of the rest was sent to prison but many Nazis who took part in the Holocaust did go free.
Significance: These trials were very significant, especially for that time because it helped establish an important principle which was that individuals are responsible for their own actions, even at times of war where the governemtnt has taken over.
