The Battle of Verdun (26 feb 1916 año – 18 dic 1916 año)

The French fortresses were attacked by the massive assaults launched by the German troops at Verdun. This was significant as Verdun was crucial for France for its defence and morale. The German Chief was aware of its importance, so they had hoped to encourage the French to pour in reinforcements which were thereby weakening the other points along the western front. The total French causalities were estimated of to be 542,000. Despite these loses, France did not lose Verdun, however Germany did hold 8km more than this battle had begun, but they also suffered greatly with 434,000 causalities.
