Logging and Lumber (1 ene 1890 año – 1 dic 1940 año)

Descripción:

In 1890 more than 23,000 men worked in Wisconsin’s logging industry. Also about 32,000 worked at the mills. These mills turned timber into boards. Each winter the lumberjacks would take up almost 450 logging camps. They would cut down trees and during the spring the lumberjacks would float the timber downstream to over 1,000 mills. In the 1890s a quarter of all the people living in Wisconsin were logging and lumbering employed. Once in the 20th century lumberjacks would start using railroads to help transfer the lumber to the mills instead of using river. This helped them be able to work year round when it was impossible to use the river. The lumber camps got bigger and featured kitchens, dining halls, bunkhouses, company stores, blacksmiths, and carpentry shops.
