Wisconsin started off as a territory in 1836. The first capitol was Belmont, but soon the capitol turned into Madison which is what our capital is today. During that time Wisconsin continued to grow. It mostly became a land for farmers. In 1848, Wisconsin joined the Union as the 30th state.
