First Aaliyah (1 ene 1888 año – 1 ene 1904 año)

This was the first wave of European Jewish settlers to Ottoman Palestine to fulfill Theoder Herzl's ideology of Zionism. It is not the last wave of migration -- there are about five aaliyahs in all -- but this one kicks off the Zionist move to fulfill Herzl's mandate of creating a Jewish homeland.

At this point, there isn't a substantial amount of animosity towards the European Jewish settlers among Ottoman Palestinians. The settlers bring with them European money and connections -- it's not until later waves that tensions really start to bubble up.
