Giotto was an Italian painter and architect during the start of the renaissance, who helped to set up the style that we now know as Renaissance art. While medieval art had been often very crude and unrealistic due to being made by untrained artists, Renaissance art brought back the ancient Greek and Roman ideas of naturalism, perspective and foreshortening. Giotto was one of the first to do all of these things. His bringing back of all of these things helped to set up the Renaissance.
