His little girls are becoming teenagers, and he hasn’t been there to watch them grow. He isn’t sure he really even knows them anymore. They certainly don’t seem to know him well at all. He visits, but it’s almost as painful as it is elating. They aren’t used to him, and the feeling of being a stranger to his daughters just about rips his heart clean from his chest.
