The Soviet Union stepped in and answered their calls. They brought them technical, political and military advisors to help build modern day china
Chiang Kai-Shek took over leadership of the Nationikst after Sun Yixian’s death in 1925
Chinag started the Northern Expedition which was a military campaign against warlords
Efficient, highly motivated Nationislt soldiers easily collapsed warlord resistance
Disagreements rose between the two wings of the Nationalists, The socialists and communist wanted to give more power for the peasants and workers, the other wing opposed such radical ideas, especially the idea of redistributing land to peasants (Chiang became leader of this wing)
Chinag used his power to wipe out the Soviets Union from China and moved against the other wings parties. Troops loyal to Chiang attacked the communist stronghold in Shanghai. With the communsit no longer having power, Chiang felt as if he had no one threatening his power. Than establishing his government in Nanjing
Wanting a strong, and efficient government, Chiang and his followers set up one with a one party rule, with Chiang as their leader
They struggled to build their industry due to the money that was spent on defense, However the area in China under nationilst rule thrived, Roads and Railroads were built and a National Bank was created, education also improved
However the oppressive system of land ownership because they wanted the support of Landowners and Merchants, Failed to change tax collection methods, did little to change chinese peasants suffering
In 1921 Chinese intellectuals met in Shanghai and founded the chinese Communist party
Inspired by the Rusian Revolution and the ideas proposed by Marx and Lenin, the chinese communism founders hoped to free their country from foreing domination and economic backwardness
The Nationolist welcome the weak Communists, However the Nationalists grew alarmed when the Communists started to grow stronger and stronger
Executions took place to try and wipe the Shanghai Communists, however when Chiang failed to destroy them he underwent large-scale military operation to wipe them out for good
