La Querelle des Femmes was a series of debates on the involvement of women in academia. Men argued that women were inherently base, easily swayed, and needed to be controlled by men. Women argued that women only lacked education and had as much potential as men.Some women were involved in the Scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment (in the Enlightenment, particularly, as salonnièrres), but they were still overwhelmingly dominated by men.
