Soviets in Afghanistan (25 dic 1979 año – 15 feb 1989 año)
Descripción:
In 1979, the USSR sent thousands of troops into Afghanistan and immediately assumed complete military and political control of large parts of the country. The internal fighting within Afghanistan between the People's and Banner factions prompted them to invade. The mujahideen rebelled against the Soviets and were funded by the U.S. Eventually, the USSR signed an accord with the U.S., Pakistan, and Afghanistan and began to withdraw troops in 1988, returning Afghanistan to its non-aligned status.
