This battle marked a turning point for WWII in the Pacific Ocean in favor of the Allies and took place from June 4 to June 7, 1942. Japanese forces attacked U.S. forces in what was supposed to be a surprise attack at Midway Island, yet American forces found out about the attack and were able to launch an effective counter-attack.
