Descripción:
Monotheism in Egypt - the 'Heretic King'. Monotheism seen as potential link to Moses and the exodus.
Originally known as Amenhotep IV before turning away from the traditional Egyptian pantheon of gods and worshipping 'the Aten' (sun -god).
Original name Amenhotep III contains the name of the god Amun, so was abandoned for Akhenaten (containing the god Aten)
Husband of Nefertiti, and predecessor/potential father of pharaoh Tutankhaten (who reverted to the old gods and became Tutankhamun).
