1376 the pope att decided to go back to rome
he died pretty soon after
roman pope was elected but clashed with french cardinals
italian pope then hires italian cardinals
french cardinals depose him and elect french pop in Avignon
3rd pope was somehow introduced
italians supported italian pope cause they believed all popes SHOULD be italian and the british support them cause they aren't french
french liked french pope
this was very off putting to reigious people and lost a lot of the churches respect
