First African Methodist Episcopal Church (1 ene 1859 año – 1 ene 1902 año)
Descripción:
In 1859, three African American families of the Methodist and Baptist faiths worshipped at the home of Aunt Dinah Smith. Due to overcrowding, the group relocated to 4th and State Avenue to a place known as the Indian Council House, also recognized as the Flagpole Church. Later, the Baptist congregants under Rev. Joe Straighter moved to a storefront property stationed at 5th & Washington Blvd becoming First Baptist Church. The Methodists under Rev. Buchanan remained at Flagpole Church until they were given land at 7th and Ann by the German Methodists. The building became First African American Episcopal Church.
