Descripción:
Henry Clay, Secretary of State chosen by John Q. Adams, was known as the “Great Compromiser.” Clay was a member of the Republican Party, and is best known for his contribution on the Missouri Compromise and the Compromise Tariff of 1832. These two compromises fixed the issues regarding the nullification crisis. Clay also firmly believed that bringing on a war with Great Britain was essential to defend overseas business opportunities. Men who were pro-war were known as ‘War Hawks.’
