After the events of the civil war, the Communist Party took over and declared China to be the People’s Republic of China. In the following two months, Chiang Kai-shek was followed by two million soldiers into exile to Taiwan. There he would set up a government stating that it was the official ruling body of China. Later on Communist party chairman Mao Zedong would become China’s new leader.
