On April 12th, 1880, Terry Fox had started his run for cancer research. He had bone disease in his leg as a child which resulted in the amputation of his leg 15 centimetres above the knee. Terry would have to run with a prothestic leg. He ran for almost 18 months through six provinces and 5,373 kilometres. Terry was forced to stop running after he found out he had cancer in the lungs. Terry Fox had tragically passed away at the age of 22 on June 28th, 1981. Today, Terry Fox has raised over 700 million dollars for cancer research.
