This marks the years of the Russian Civil War. The anti-Bolshevik forces, the White Army, fought the Bolshevik forces, the Red Army. Ultimately, the Bolsheviks won. In the book, the White Army is represented by Mr. Jones and the other farmers while the Red Army is represented by the farm animals. The animals also win their battle conclusively enough so that "An impromptu celebration of the victory was held immediately" (Orwell 28).
