Spanish Armada (1 jul 1588 año – 27 agos 1588 año)
Descripción:
Philip II of Spain had many reasons that led to his decision to send out the Spanish Armada. For one, Francis Drake sank many Spanish ships and stole their treasure. Also, Mary Tudor was the wife of Philip II, and after she died Philip II asked Elizabeth to marry him, and she rejected his proposal. The English helped the Dutch rebellion against the Spanish, too, and Elizabeth actively lied to Philip II. Finally, Elizabeth beheaded Mary Queen of Scots, which was like the last straw for England. The Protestant vs. Catholic dilemma was that God was on someone's side, so Protestants and Catholics were always trying to find out which side God was on. The plan for the Spanish Armada was for Spain to send the largest escort of ships ever to help escort land troops from the Netherlands to England so Spain could successfully invade England. However, Drake's fireball cannons and the wind helped defeat the Armada, which then got battered by more wind and icy weather. The Spanish Armada ended up being a complete disaster for Spain, and the results were that England became the prominent navy in the world, Europe was thrown into a religious crisis, and the defeat of the Armada led to Spain's decline.
