French Revolution (5 mayo 1789 año – 9 nov 1799 año)

Descripción:

The French Revolution was a period of time that saw massive social and political disruption in France when the working class common people rose up against their corrupt and ineffective autocratic monarchy resulting in the death of their king and the establishment of a new system of government.

The French Revolution contributed to classical liberalism by promoting classical liberal principles like individual rights and freedoms, private property and rule of law. A key factor that fueled the fire of the French Revolution was the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen which established individual rights and freedoms such as freedom of speech, freedom of religion and freedom of assembly. The French Revolution saw the end to feudalism in France that had previously seen all land owned by a small number of aristocratic lords that levied high taxes on the impoverished farmers that worked their land. The end this feudal system resulted in more land being owned by those who lived on it and farmed on it, thus contributing to the principle of private property. Arguably the revolution's most notable cause was the lack of accountability the monarchy and aristocracy showed when faced with the consequences of their actions such as food shortages. This lack of accountability to the common people led to the public beheading of the King which showed that the people of France would not stand for a system of government without rule of law.
